Mountain Province Diamonds CEO steps down

Mountain Province Diamonds (TSX: MPVD) has announced that its president and CEO Stuart Brown was stepping down from his position with immediate effect. 

The Canadian miner did not provide details on why Brown, who took the helm in 2018, has left, but said it had been “a mutual decision”. 

Jonathan Comerford, a director of Mountain Province since September 2001, has been appointed interim president and chief executive until a full-time replacement is announced. 

“Stuart has guided the company through difficult times for the diamond sector, including the very challenging covid-19 pandemic. He leaves the company in a stronger position entering 2022,” Comerford said. 

Mountain Province’s flagship operation is its 49%-owned Gahcho Kué mine, in Canada’s Northwest Territories. The remainder is held by De Beers, the mine operator. 

Gahcho Kué was the centre of a covid-19 outbreak in February, which forced the companies to shut it down for 22 days.
